Sunday, April 8, 2012: Happy Easter Sam! Today is the 4th Easter we will not be together. That is a humbling thought. It’s unfortunate that our fates are in the hands of people we have never met. One thing is for sure, be very careful in choosing who you spend your time with. As the old saying goes, you can’t help who you fall in love with, however you do have control over who you bring into your life. Be very picky Sam. Don’t settle for anything but the best.
Having said all that, I want to say THANK YOU! The moment I arrived at the house, there you were waiting for me with all smiles! I was ecstatic to see you. At the same time, wondering if you were going to be upset with me for being gone last week. There was none of that. In fact you made it a point to tell me Adriana Coronel Tenorio (AKA Adriana Howitt Coronel, Ari Coronel, Ari Coronel Tenorio, Ari Howitt, Ari Howitt Coronel) was not home. After I told you that I didn’t care where she was, that I was only there to see you anyway, you were all smiles for the rest of the day.
We were relegated to the outside patio, lucking out with a beautiful day of weather. When you wanted to play in your room, of course we were redirected to the patio. Patio chalk, finger painting and dancing made up the day. Your art work is in full display in my house.
It became apparent Adriana was avoiding me. 5:00PM rolled around and the phone rang. It was Adriana instructing whoever was there to stand guard to kick me out of the house. A mature person/parent would talk to me directly and not make a scene. That’s not Adriana’s style. Making a scene is her specialty. I am not sure anyone makes a scene better.
So, there we were laughing and playing, making the most of the time together. Tina interrupts, as she does often, to tell you that it’s time for me to go. You protested by giving me a big hug and kiss. When Tina mentioned it again, this time with this wry look on her face as if she enjoyed doing it, she almost drove you to tears. Everyone saw how you reacted to this. It was incredibly sad. I gave you a big hug of my own and showered you in kisses, explaining that Adriana has a lot of growing up to do. At the same time reminding myself that it was not Tina’s fault. She’s just hired help and put in a bad position by Adriana because she is too much of a coward to do it herself.
As if this was not bad enough, Adriana tried to spread her venom to her own father, who has been staying with her for some time. Jorge is pretty cool. I have always gotten along with him. It does not help Adriana that Jorge loves me, especially after saving his ass at the border not long ago. So when Jorge saw what just unfolded, he offered to buy me lunch. As we were leaving, Tina runs out to tell Jorge that Adriana did not want him helping me! Jorge and I just laughed it off. Jorge telling me that Adriana is forgetting that he is her father and doesn’t tell him what to do. Then apologized profusely to me for Adriana’s behavior. I am sorry too Jorge. Adriana may not be able to tell you what to do, at the same time she does not listen to anyone anyway. Adriana would always tell me I am allowed to spend as much time with Samantha as I want. Yet as usual, when it comes time to follow through on her promises, she pulls the rug out from under us. It’s not the first time. And it certainly will not be the last time.
You are a tough girl Sam. Hang in there! DAD LOVES YOU!
