Saturday, April 20, 2013: Weird day today Sam. I think even you are tired of spending time confined to the living room every week. I don’t blame you. How much can we do with Lollaloopsy’s in a small room? To compound matters, you were pretty angry with me today and as usual it took a while to figure out why. Adriana Coronel Tenorio (AKA Adriana Howitt Coronel, Ari Coronel, Ari Coronel Tenorio, Ari Howitt, Ari Howitt Coronel) has been running her mouth again, as only she can. She is the queen of playing the “victim” in almost every scenario. Nothing is ever her fault. Anyway, Adriana told you I will not allow you to go to Irapuato to see your cousins. That much is true, I did say “no”. When I asked you if you knew why I said “no” you said “No, please tell me”…
You were less than pleased with the truth Sam. I understand that. Adriana did not tell you why you cannot go to Irapuato. Adriana failed to tell you that you can’t go because the courts will not let you go. Adriana did not tell you cannot go because she abducted you and has kept you from me and my family all these years. Adriana did not tell you that you cannot go because after all this time we are still stuck in the living room of the house like visiting someone in jail. Adriana has not told you any of that, but I did. And you were not happy.
Maria Guadalupe Tenorio Toledano (AKA Lupita Tenorio, Marsha Tenorio) and Axel Alvarez Coronel (AKA Axel Coronel) got in on the act too. They tried to tell me the facts of life as they see it. Even to go as far as to tell me “Sam only acts this way on Saturdays”. Today I was not having it. I reminded that 10-4 is my time with Sam, not theirs and if Sam is angry with me for something Adriana told her, then that is between Sam and me. It’s none of their business. Of course when I tell the truth to my own daughter about what is really going on, well, that’s can’t be tolerated by her abductors.
After spending some time upstairs in your room, you calmed down and wanted to paint with me. We made a new calendar by painting various birds, caterpillars, butterflies, hearts, Mr. Peanut. Anything that came to mind then glued the pieces of paper together. You called it your new calendar. It’s outside drying right now. I am writing this as I sit on the couch. You asked for permission to go back upstairs. You are playing music up there. Axel is with the math tutor, sitting at the dining room table. The table in the living room is littered with art supplies, mainly because that is where our visits are unfortunately. Not sure what to make of all this Sam. I can only imagine what you think about as all this unfolds in front of you.
Not all was lost. We had some fun with a different kind of math. A girl is never too young to count money. Sorry Sam, you are not an exception. You asked for my help in learning the different coins of US currency. Because our coins do not have numbers on them like the peso, it is different. So we started out looking at a dollar and equating that to the number 100. Next we learned the main coins of US currency and how many combinations you can use to make a dollar or 100 if you will. Then it was time to pick a number between 1-100. You chose 44. The goal was to find a combination of coins that equaled 44. Any combination will do. You hit it out of the park Sam! We played the game a couple more times for good measure and the big smile on your face and high-fives told me you got it.
Fast forward. I am in line. I am standing here thinking, I spend more time coming and going every Saturday than I get to spend with you. I never thought about it before because what difference does it make? I’m not going to stop coming to see you. Alfredo was asking me what my Saturdays are like in that house. His jaw hit the floor when I told him how we get to spend our time together. He was shocked. He has kids of his own and has had the pleasure of meeting Adriana and Maria Guadalupe. He was very adamant about telling me about how deliberate their treatment of us is. I know, tell me something I did not already know. For me it’s a means to an end. For you those 6-hours are an eternity. Let’s see if we can change this tune Sweetheart. I LOVE YOU SAM!
