Wednesday, November 5, 2008: This was an interesting day. Adriana Coronel Tenorio (AKA Adriana Howitt Coronel, Ari Coronel, Ari Coronel Tenorio, Ari Howitt, Ari Howitt Coronel) has a son from another relationship. Axel Alvarez Coronel (AKA Axel Coronel). He’s a great kid. Great student. He doesn’t hang with the wrong crowd. If he stays focused on his studies he will do well. No question. The story I was originally told about Axel’s father was that he was pretty much a deadbeat. I had no reason to question what Adriana was telling me. All the time I had known the Coronel-Tenorio family, Axel’s father poked his head in only a couple times. Both times he let his own son down. I felt horrible for Axel. It was only after Samantha’s abduction that I find out that Adriana was not exactly truthful about how the relationship with her son’s father had ended. Adriana lying. I know big shock.
Axel was big into soccer. I am a hockey guy so soccer was an interest of mine as well because the games are fairly similar. I was teaching Axel how to roller blade. As he was getting the hang of it he decided to skate on his own and away from anything he could crash into: cars, mailboxes, etc. One time he did fall in an awkward way and broke his wrist. We take him to the emergency room where they put a cast on it. Next thing you know it’s got all kinds of signatures on it from his friends. Not to mention he has a pretty cool story to tell people.
November 5, 2008, Adriana tells me she is taking Axel to Mexico City to see a relative who happens to be a surgeon. A plastic surgeon. Reason being, she took Axel to the doctor and his wrist was not healing right and that Axel was going to need surgery. I thought the story was odd for obvious reasons. How is a plastic surgeon going to fix Axel’s broken wrist? Second, how could Axel’s wrist have gone bad in the few days the last doctor’s exam noted he was healing just fine?
You will see in the next couple days that this was all a big lie. At the time I just let Adriana do her thing. Samantha was not going with them, so I thought the few days without having to deal with Adriana was not necessarily a bad thing. At the time I thought perhaps the tension between us over her trip to Spain was finally ending and we can move on without all the chaos.
Little did I know Adriana was planning something entirely different.
