colon cancer, Jiu Jitsu

Tuesday, March 4, 2014: Hi Beautiful. I miss you Sweetheart. Life is very short. I was reminded of that today. I found out a guy I trained jiu jitsu with had just passed away from colon cancer. His name was Fred. The disease took Fred quick. This guy was in his early 50’s. Age was just a number to Fred. Being a former Marine and commercial airline pilot he took very good care of himself. Most 20-something year old guys would give anything to be in that good of shape. Fred was a natural at jiu jitsu too. We had some great sparring sessions. I remember the last time we trained together. Looking back that may have been his way of saying good-bye to us. A month later he was gone. It’s crazy how these kinds of things happen to the nicest people. There is no way to rationalize it. We just have to accept that there is a far greater force out there in the universe than we can possibly comprehend. Colon cancer is a very bad and nasty disease. It mostly affects men after 40. I’m 43. This motivated me to see the doctor and get the annual exams from now on. My appointment is on April 1st. In the meantime, say a prayer for Fred and his family. Thank him for blessing my life with his presence. We will never forget him. I LOVE YOU SAM!
