Monday, May 4, 2015: Sam, meet Clayton & Tatum. I did not just come home with one kitten yesterday. I came home with two. Nobody had to give me any sales pitch to adopt any of these little creatures. Like Littleman, Clayton and Tatum found me. These two were barely two-months old and the size of my fist. Endless energy and these two in particular would not leave each others side under any circumstance. That only means when they get older they will be thick as thieves of course – hahaha.

There is a story behind the colorful personalities of each and every one of these kittens in this litter. In their neighborhood, their father is kind of notorious. His name is Black Beard. Black Beard is a black & white cat with distinct black markings around his mouth that resemble a beard. Hence the name. When I arrive to the house, there is Black Beard chillin’ with Baba Mama on the front porch. Black Beard is a totally cool cat. Almost as if he knows he runs the neighborhood – hahaha. I would soon find out Black Beard may be responsible for fathering as many as 60 kittens in the neighborhood in recent years. Apparently Black Beard can be quite elusive when the topic of neutering is mentioned.

Suffice it to say, this litter has 6 kittens. All healthy. Clayton is a Tabby, tiger striped with the Tabby trademark “M” marking above the eyes. Tatum is a spitting image of his father except he has only 1/2 a black beard. Not knowing what to name him at such a young age, Tatum earned the nickname Half Beard. Why not. These boys have personality, no question. Not sure who is the older of the two since the litter was born under the front porch. Nobody laid witness to this miracle of life. All I know is that these two brothers are not leaving each others side no matter what. If someone tried, they would probably find one another by any means necessary.

Everyone in the house also noticed that Clayton & Tatum would not leave me alone. As if they accepted me as one of their own, rubbing their small heads against my feet and trying to claw their way up the back of my legs. So, of course they were coming home with me. On the ride home I was trying to figure out where I would keep these little guys until they got big enough to rule the whole house. My house is 3 levels. Hard to fathom kittens would be able to tackle the mountain of stairs in this house, although it would not be because of a lack of trying. So, for the time being they will occupy the room where your playhouse is Sam. I am sure a playhouse full of wrapped birthday and Christmas gifts Adriana Coronel Tenorio (AKA Adriana Howitt Coronel, Ari Coronel, Ari Coronel Tenorio, Ari Howitt, Ari Howitt Coronel) is denying you will not be a tempting way for a kitten to sharpen their skills, especially with their teeth and claws. Just kidding. Of course it will.

On second thought, I will remove the presents. In the meantime, the vet is scheduled for an overall physical, etc. The room is plenty big to allow them freedom to do what they want while they get big enough. As I check in on them playing, Clayton and Tatum notice every little movement. The main stairs are right there, so it’s not much of a stretch. This is an invitation for anyone going up or down those stairs to play with them in between kitten sparring sessions. For little creatures the size of my fist, these two have some serious leaping ability already, making their way behind me only to leap up and claw their way up my back and onto my shoulders and sometimes my head. What can you say, they are learning.

As I wrap this up, one more check on Clayton and Tatum before I call it a night. They were snuggled together in one of the far corners of your playhouse, instinctively using your playhouse as shelter like they did when they were first born under the porch. Very smart. I chuckled inwardly not wanting to wake them up as I listened closely to their little snores. They were happy and sound asleep. And this is only day 1 of an incredible journey with Clayton & Tatum. Can’t wait for you to be a part of it Sam.

I LOVE YOU!
