homeless veterans, Pipes Cafe

Saturday, August 18, 2012: Hi Sam. I saw something pretty awesome today that made me think of you. And how fortunate we are that you are a vibrant, healthy girl in spite of all the chaos that surrounds us. I had breakfast at a place called Pipes Cafe. You would love this place. A single plate of food could easily feed 3 people. Because I have been there enough times, I know some homeless veterans that call under a bridge home. When I go to Pipes I make sure to get take out containers because I already know I can’t eat all that food. It’s a humbling experience to talk to these guys and listen to their stories. In turn they are obviously grateful for the food. It’s a travesty that any veteran that serves their country finds themselves in this position, regardless of their circumstance. I don’t get that.

Suffice it to say, there was a family with three little girls. One of the girls was confined to a wheelchair yet you can see how happy she was. It was awesome to see how the entire family absolutely rallied around their baby girl. It did make me emotional because it reinforced what great parents are all about. They fight for their kids honor no matter what. Not abduct them and alienate them from the other parent and family members. I am brought to tears even as I right this.

So, we fight on Sam. I LOVE YOU SWEETHEART!
