Sunday, May 4, 2014: Hi Sam! It was so nice to see you on your birthday! The distraction from regular visits was welcomed. The court clerk and I pulled up a little early. The PT Cruiser was in front of the house, a good sign Adriana Coronel Tenorio (AKA Adriana Howitt Coronel, Ari Coronel, Ari Coronel Tenorio, Ari Howitt, Ari Howitt Coronel) was going to keep her promise from a couple days ago. Maria Guadalupe Tenorio Toledano (AKA Lupita Tenorio, Marsha Tenorio) was standing on the patio stretching. What a sight that was.
Then out of the house comes Adriana with none other than Danny Howitt (AKA Daniel Duncan Howitt, Elizabeth Farquhar Duncan, Kenneth Duncan). The guy is smaller than I expected. And he’s a chain smoker. Suffice it to say, Adriana never told us she was getting married. The court official acknowledges she did not tell us because it was a visitation day for you and me and getting married out of Tijuana puts her in violation of several court orders. And Adriana knows that. I am taking it a step further to suggest that they are up to something. Another move. Something.
So she timed leaving the house perfectly as we arrived. Obviously she wanted to make a statement, which is sad. Danny Howitt knew who I was and did not make eye contact with me at all. He just got in Adriana’s car. As we entered the house, you were in the office area playing with a friend from school. Apparently Adriana had your birthday party on Friday. I could see right away not much effort was going to be put into your actual birthday today. I brought a Happy Birthday banner, a big cake and 2 duffle bags of gifts for you. I went over to say hello and Happy Birthday and as you stood up, I grabbed you in one arm to lift you up. Much to your delight. I miss you so much Sam!
It did not take you long to dive right onto the presents. We rolled video to catch all the laughs. One if the gifts was the same cell phone you asked me for back in February. I loaded up pictures of us as well as some of the games you asked me for. I even set up your own email account so we can communicate. Time will tell if Adriana snooped through the phone and deletes the email I sent you wishing you a Happy Birthday.
Another gift was a Lego set to build a Barbie yacht. You loved this too. Immediately you opened it up and the three of us started to build it. It did not take long for Maria Guadalupe to tell us to move from the office area to the couch. Like I said earlier, your birthday was a welcomed distraction from the norm. Later, Adriana returned and actually joined us to sing Happy Birthday. Afterwards you wanted to have your face smashed into the cake. It’s a great Mexican tradition. So, that’s exactly what you did. Your friend followed and I was next. You took extra liberty by making sure my entire face was in the cake. I even had frosting in my nose. It was funny.
Danny Howitt spent most of the time upstairs. When the urge to smoke hit him, Danny took his smoke breaks outside. This happened with such regularity that the court official wanted to see what he was up to and followed him. Danny clearly was not comfortable with me being there. The court official mentioned he did a lot of pacing up and down the street; smoking his cigarettes. Not taking any visible interest in what we were doing, unlike the other prison wardens. That observation made it into his court files for the judge to see.
Adriana really doesn’t like the court official. That’s because she can’t pull any shit with him there. She had you ask why the court official was there. She just could not let it go on your birthday Sam. And when we did not give you the answer Adriana was looking for, she kept having you ask. We offered the politically correct answer because that’s the right thing to do. The gestures on Adriana’s part did not go unnoticed. The court official was not pleased with Adriana because of this. She knows why the court official has to be there. He also noted that her and Maria Guadalupe’s influence on you is apparent, and its sad. You are torn between wanting to be yourself around me and making sure you don’t upset Adriana and Maria Guadalupe. After all you have to live with them. I think deep down you know how easily unhinged both of these people can be.
Unfortunately, our time had to end. The look on your face told us you did not want us to leave. You hid your disappointment by going upstairs with your friend. Adriana met me outside to say good bye. I think she wanted me to say something about Danny Howitt when in reality I could care less. I was more worried about what she was planning because it’s written across her forehead. Adriana tells me she had a dream about me that I had cancer. Jokingly I replied by telling her that she probably does wish I had cancer. She laughed and told me that she was worried about me. I reassured her that there is nothing to worry about. However if she is worried about me then let’s figure out a compromise here because clearly she is trying to start a new life with someone else and that this is no way to start a new marriage.
And this Sam is how you celebrated your 8th birthday. Another year and another birthday with out my friends or family. A friend saw a picture of the cake I got you and she cried; feeling bad that you have to go through this. I LOVE YOU SAM! See you soon Beautiful!
