Sunday, October 30, 2011: Sam, I dodged a major bullet this morning. I am processing the timing of this morning as ironic even though I do not necessarily believe in coincidence. I received a text from Adriana Coronel Tenorio (AKA Adriana Howitt Coronel, Ari Coronel, Ari Coronel Tenorio, Ari Howitt, Ari Howitt Coronel). She’s sad about an article she read about “Child Abductions in Mexico”
You have got to be kidding me!
It’s not hard to figure actually. I knew exactly what article she was talking about. She found the documentary that the San Diego news did on our story. Had she found this just a few days before, good-bye pardon. No question about it. I called her to talk, hearing the sadness in her voice as if reading the article made her realize what she had done. What did Adriana expect? She abducted you, steals everything out of my house in the process, runs from us 3-times in 2-years and had me ambushed and thrown into a Mexican prison. Not to mention she tried to run over the cameraman who filmed the documentary she is reading about. What did Adriana really expect? The US Consulate, with their infinite number of resources including the media connections, was protecting me after all the lunacy. The prison situation was the icing on the cake for them to make sure that does not happen again.
The bright side for Adriana was that her name was never mentioned in the article. Without prior knowledge of the story, nobody knows who she is. Obviously she likes to Google me to see what I am doing and found the article. I can only imagine what was running through her mind when she read about all the heinous things she did.
Adriana mentioned several times that she felt like a horrible mother reading the article and asked me if she was a bad mother. On top of that the article mentioned the emotional and physical toll this has had on me, not just the monetary toll, and yet she dismissed how all this really affected me. Adriana Coronel stopped short of making fun of me saying she would have actually felt bad for the guy in the article if she knew it was not me. That’s crazy. Then again, it’s not like I was expecting much in the way of self-actualization or sympathy from Adriana. She does not have that in her.
On another note, tomorrow is Halloween. Halloween 2008 was the last holiday we spent together under the same roof Sam. I will never forget that day. You were dressed as a vampire. I remember an argument Adriana and I got into because I wanted to take you “trick or treating” She did not want you to go. This is what kids do. I was hoping everyone would go. Instead she made you cry, which was completely uncalled for. I ended up taking you and to save face, she ran after us to catch up. I have not spent another Halloween with you since.
