Thursday, September 15, 2011: Good Morning Sam! Would it surprise you that Adriana Coronel Tenorio (AKA Adriana Howitt Coronel, Ari Coronel, Ari Coronel Tenorio, Ari Howitt, Ari Howitt Coronel) lied about dropping the criminal case…again? Neither are we. I am literally sitting next to Adriana in her attorney’s office, Oscar Ivan Diaz Gomez. Why would I do that? Well when I met Adriana at the court as planned, she tells me we have to come to the office because she wants to bring an agreement to court for us to sign. Why would we need an agreement if Adriana was going to drop the case she has been bullshitting her way through for over a year? It’s never that easy with Adriana. There is always a twist. This morning was no different. Only Adriana can put a price on telling the truth. So, wanting something from Adriana in return, I wanted her to answer one question and in answering the question, I would never bring it up again and not get mad at the answer. The question? “Why did she send me to prison for something I did not do?” Fair enough right? I said this in front of everyone, even Oscar Ivan Diaz Gomez. Well, she would not answer the question. Oddly enough Oscar Ivan Diaz Gomez was not stopping her from answering me either. I asked several times and her answer was the same, “I am not going to answer that question.”

This is indicative of how the time spent with Adriana went. I had to meet Alicia and Carlos that afternoon, so while I had a couple of hours to burn after this debacle. What amazes me is that with everything that happened in court and how bad that has been going for Adriana, she still has the ability to look me dead in the eye and thinks this is funny. Incredible. When conversations become too tough for Adriana she storms off. I did not ask for this meeting, she did. What was the point??? I finally had the chance to exhale in Alicia and Carlos’ office. They are not surprised Adriana did not go through with this…again. They are surprised I keep trying. I guess a little dose of “I told you so” was deserved. On the flip side we received a judgment from family court on our petition to spend more time together and spend that time in San Diego.

The judgment starts out by saying they do not believe any of Adriana’s claims about me. “Baseless” is the word they used. This is not the first time they formed this opinion about Adriana. Then it explains the increase in time I actually get to spend with you, going from 6-hours per week to 12-hours per week. Its still every Saturday, however we are free to do whatever we want, where ever we want – except in the United States. They state that my lack of Spanish are a little concern. Never mind you are bi-lingual and they know this. A bigger concern is that you are only 5-years old. The courts have only seen us together a couple times. They don’t know how we interact. I’m thinking, so what. I am your Dad.

What does all this mean? Well, we have twice as much time to spend together as before. That’s a positive. We are no longer relegated to that house, however we still have to be supervised. Interesting, but still not totally bad. The courts still think you need to be in Adriana’s care all the time for the next 18-months. Of course I am grateful for the increased time. I am scratching my head at the hypocrisy of it all. The judge opens the judgment and discredits Adriana again, yet sees fit to allow her to continue and drive a wedge between us and cause all this hostility. Adriana tells me she will hardly be around on Saturdays because its her busiest work day, so I am stuck with the family for the time being.

At one point we talked about the larger reality of both cases. If things continue on the way they are, the judge will eventually make a decision in the criminal case. For some reason, if it does not go our way, we have to appeal. That will drag things out longer, probably 6-12 more months. I will have to continue to sign in at the prison and waste a day doing that not to mention another more money to fight an appeal that could go to you Sam. At the end of the day, we need to be prepared for all scenarios.

Then there is the family case. If Adriana does not come to her senses by Tuesday, and there is no reason to believe she will, we will have to appeal that case too. I am not even considering the judge in the criminal case who is looking for a handout…that will more than likely be another $5,000 if we decide to take her offer. When we do the math there has to be another way. We talked about giving Adriana the $5,000 she is asking for. In turn, we are suggesting Adriana drops the criminal case, becomes responsible for her own visa with my sponsorship, allows you to spend time with me in Mexico unabated and last when you turn 7-years old, you can FINALLY spend time with me in the United States one weekend per month. That seems like a no-brainer to me.

So we called Adriana. We barely got a sentence out when she hung up on us. Par for the course. So, Alicia and Carlos got Oscar Ivan Diaz Gomez on the phone and talked for almost an hour. He seems to be open to the counter offer, a chance to end both cases. Who wouldn’t take that opportunity? Oscar Ivan Diaz Gomez seemed to like the idea. We will see where this goes. We have until Tuesday.

If Rod Serling were still alive, he would have a field day with this.
